lyrics

Old oak tree branches mesmerize but I know I’m not that impressive. Reaching high toward heaven, only a feeble attempt to reach glory. Or is it desperate in humility, knowing it’s state of dependency? Though standing tall where my feet are planted, these roots hide beneath the surface. The earth they cling to will surely perish. All we see is destined to decay but still you can’t seem to pry these fingers away from the dust from which they came. Sometimes I claim it’s image and I bask in it’s splendor. O it’s seven wonders! I’m in a lightning storm but I can’t hear past thunder. Fierce winds test my strength but its not measured in quantity, because my leaves are letting go and my beauty’s giving way. I’m finding that the storms in life ain’t a test to see who’s loyal but my faithfulness is based off the quality of the soil. I once thought I had a fear of heights. Turns out it was a fear of falling. And in all my folly it appears my fears were hidden from the truth. That glory is not found in the fruit of the tree that seeks to prove but glory is found in the secrets of the roots.
